Yaounde, 1st August (CAPnews) – For his first start, the African Football League (AFL) will start in a reduced format of eight teams. It consists of the eight best-ranked formations in the continent from the North, Central and South East regions. The African Football Confederation (CAF) features the African Football League as an « exciting competition that will feature hit (8) of the most famous and successful teams » of Africa.
For its inaugural edition, they will be only eight to tackle Tanzania’s land from November 20, 2023. It is starting with in the Egyptian giants Al Ahly Football Club, the Sportive Hope of Tunis in Tunisia and the Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco are the football clubs in the North Region ; the clubs in the West Centre Region are : Enyénymic Football Club of South Club and the Almighty Mazembe of DRC ; the Sundowns Football Club of South Africa, Angola Club Simelo, East Football Club of Nigeria.
The competition will start at the Round-stage quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and the final ; which are all played on two matches. Finals will be played on November 5 and 11, 2023. This reduced format of the African Football League (AFL) is announcing the full-fledged AFL competition that will bring together the 24 top ranked football clubs in the African continent and start over the 2024/2025 football season.
