Nkongsamba, 26th july 2023 (CAPnews) – The Sultan of the Bamoun kingdom Mohammed Nabil Mbombo Njoya has urged his subjects to be careful not to indulge in criminal activities and acts which will jeopardise the essence of their stay in Nkongsamba. He went ahead and instructed them to respect the authorities of the city and do their utmost best to contribute to the development of the town which they now consider as a second home. The Sultan was addressing the Bamoun community in Nkongsamba, chief town of the Moungo department of Cameroon during his cultural and traditional tour, including the administration of the royal blessings so that God can protect his people on Thursday 26th July 2022.
A pending document on the Ngoun festival at the Unesco head office
The Bamoun people, including the Nkongsamba inhabitants who are not from the Noun Department came out in their numbers to pay homage to the Sultan. Most notable were different dance groups from both Foumbam and NSO to grace the ceremony.
During this visit, projects were presented to the people as the Sultan’s developmental goals that will benefit his people before 2035 when Cameroon is expected to be an emergent country. One of these projects is a pending document on the Ngoun festival at the Unesco head office. According to the Sultan, if the document is approved, the festival is going to be the first Cameroonian festival to be internationally recognized and its cultural entity completely preserved. The « Ngoun » is the Bamoun festival which dates back to 600 years. It celebrates the rich and vibrant Bamoun culture. The festival usually takes place within seven days with each day heralding different colourful dances.
Since Sultan Mohammed Nabil Mbombo Njoya was enthroned in 2021 immediately after his father’s demise, he has made it a duty to visit his subjects and give them his royal blessings in and out of Cameroon.
